Stop Letting Other People's Doubts Write Your Story

ree

We’ve all been there—listening to a narrator, whether it’s in a book, movie, or life itself, weaving a tale that pulls you in, guiding your imagination like a magician with words. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself if the story you’ve been telling yourself is even yours? Let’s be real for a minute. Some of the beliefs we cling to, the ones we let dictate our lives, aren’t even coming from our own experiences. Nah, sis. A lot of that baggage is second-hand—handed to you by the people closest to you, wrapped up in their fears, doubts, and limitations. And because you trust them, you accept it like it’s gospel truth. But here’s the twist: it ain’t.

I’ve had those same moments of doubt. You know, the ones that creep in like an unwanted guest at a party when you're feeling all confident and capable? Like, why does doubt conveniently show up when I’m on the brink of something big? That’s when I stop and ask myself: "Who planted that doubt? Was it me, or was it somebody else’s belief seeping into my mind?"

You gotta ask yourself these same questions. Who are the narrators in your life? Mom? Dad? Your bestie or bae? Sometimes we carry their stories without even realizing it. It’s not to say they don’t love you, but just because they’re telling the story doesn’t mean it’s the one that’s meant for you.

Let me say this loud and clear: it’s okay to return any narrative that doesn’t serve you. In fact, it’s necessary. Reject it, cancel the subscription, send it back to wherever it came from! You are the author of your life, so stop accepting plotlines you didn’t even write. You are what you think, so start telling yourself the story that aligns with the future you’re creating.

This isn’t just about some feel-good fluff; this is your mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It’s about recognizing the subtle ways we allow others' energy, beliefs, and negativity to hijack our vibe. When that happens, we start living in a reality that doesn’t even belong to us. That’s why I urge you to take a close look at the people around you. Their energy might be seeping into your thoughts without you even realizing it.

It's time to curate your own damn life—whether that means grinding toward those big dreams, finding stillness, or just cultivating peace. And listen, not everything people tell you deserves space in your mind. If it’s not laced in love, kindness, and encouragement, it’s time to question it. Why are you letting fear sit in the front seat of your story? Time to kick it out. You don’t need that kind of passenger.

At the end of the day, you are who you say you are. So why not say you’re powerful, capable, and deserving of every blessing you dream of? Why not rewrite that narrative in a way that lifts you up instead of holding you down? I’m just saying, sis—there’s no room for a story you didn’t sign up for. Rewrite it, own it, and live it fully.
